I feel so blessed to have such great clients (and friends)! I'm excited to share the latest residential project that's been completed (that's a tiny lie - artwork and a beautiful lacquered credenza is still en route!). In any case, this was an example of a project of smaller scope but big results -- the client recently moved from San Francisco and the challenge was to figure out how to make existing pieces that were bought for a much larger San Fran spread work in a DC condo with a traditional row house footprint. This involved space planning, editing and then identifying new pieces to bring it all together. Very pleased with the results!
Heh, DC. You still have until February 24th to catch Ai Weiwei's "According to What?" at the Hirsshorn. Just. do. it. Love his quote: "The so-called contemporary art is not a form but a philosophy of society."
Remember the Novogratz known for 1) smashing good looks, 2) design savvy, 3) thrift and ingenuity, 4) Sixx Design, 5) their book Downtown Chic and 6) raising seven children between the ages of 3 and 15? Well, they're cruising through DC and I'll be seeing them this Tuesday at 6pm at CB2 in Georgetown. So can you! They're in town to promote their new book Home by Novogratz and their new furniture line at CB2. It's quite the year for them, no? Should be a good time - hope to see you there!
Tomorrow is Fashion's Night Out in my new neighborhood of Georgetown where I work, play and sleep. I might have to take a little extra time in picking my ensemble come morning. Maybe I'll channel a work appropriate version of...
Remember the Dupont Underground? As a short recap, it's an ambitious project that I've been peripherally involved with that aims to invigorate the DC's art scene by reclaiming a piece of subterranean infrastructure — a streetcar station last used 50 years ago. Plans are big, but at the moment resources are scares. On Friday, September 7th, the Arts Coalition for the Dupont Underground (ACDU) will be throwing a fundraiser/buzz builder. The event will be held “Aboveground” at Eastern Market’s North Hall.
All net funds collected from the event will help fund an international architectural competition that will bring world-wide attention to the efforts of ACDU. Yippee! That's where it starts gettng exciting. It will also fund the re-opening of one of the “underground” entrances for special events, pop-ups, shows, incubators, and whatever new ideas the group can test out as part of a phased plan to re-open the entire site.
Sponsors include Bombay Sapphire (who have created two specialty drinks for the event), Star Hill Brewery, Stella Artois and Veritas Vineyard will be filling cups. KIND Snacks and Popchips will be supplying the munchies. A giant raffle with thousands of dollars worth of goods will be on display. Raffle sponsors include: Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art and Design, The Pinkline Project, Our City Film Festival, KIND Snacks, Urban Style Lab, Bombay Sapphire, Marc by Marc Jacobs, local artists’ works and more. Hope the locals can swing by!

2011 flashback. Anyone remember Breeze wearing a chair corset on the runway? Well, we're less than a month away from round 2 of Cosmo Couture -- this time crafting an outfit from beautiful wood veneers (thanks to Bacon Veneer!) See if you can find me in the attached, but don't look too close. :)
